{"id":65,"date":"2020-01-03T13:10:43","date_gmt":"2020-01-03T12:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/pthnm\/?p=65"},"modified":"2024-12-30T17:48:12","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T16:48:12","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pthnm.pl\/en\/society\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">The Polish Society for the History of Medical Sciences continues the traditions of dating back to 1920, when Prof. W\u0142adys\u0142aw Szumowski and Prof. Adam Wrzosek established two different societies of enthusiasts of medical history in Pozna\u0144 and Krakow. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">In 1924 in Pozna\u0144, Prof.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">Adam Wrzosek founded the quarterly &#8222;Archives of the History and Philosophy of Medicine&#8221;.<\/span> The journal <span class=\"\" title=\"\">was a treasury of knowledge about the history of Polish medicine. Articles published in it were usually based on hardly available archival sources.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">After the Second World War, the history of medicine also developed in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Warsaw and Wroc\u0142aw.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">D<\/span><span class=\"\" title=\"\">uring the 8. Congress of Polish Medical Historians, which took place on June 10-14, 1957, in Warsaw, t<\/span><span class=\"\" title=\"\">he Polish Society for the History of Medicine was established. In September 1982, &#8222;and Pharmacy&#8221; was added to the name of the Society. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">The period of political and economic transformation of Poland, initiated in 1989, turned out to be difficult for the Polish Society of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">The journal was deprived of any support and the attempt to re-register the Society failed. In <\/span><\/span><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">2016, participants of the 24. National Congress of Historians of Medicine, Pharmacy and Allied Sciences decided to change the name of the Polish Society for the History of Medicine and Pharmacy to the Polish Society for the History of Medical Sciences (PSHMS). In 2017, it was registered to meet legal requirements. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">Currently, the PSHMS includes scholars and enthusiasts of the history of medical sciences from Bia\u0142ystok, Bydgoszcz, Krak\u00f3w, Pozna\u0144, Szczecin, Toru\u0144, Warsaw, Wroc\u0142aw and \u017bory.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">The next national congress will be organized in 2022 in Bydgoszcz.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Polish Society for the History of Medical Sciences continues the traditions of dating back to 1920, when Prof. W\u0142adys\u0142aw Szumowski and Prof. Adam Wrzosek established two different societies of enthusiasts of medical history in Pozna\u0144 and Krakow.
